Every once in a while, a creator comes along and drops a really "Cool Project" that I feel the need to hype a little here on TheSteveStrout, and on my podcast, The Steve & Crypto Show! Be it anything from a comic book and art work to music and novels, or like in this case a movie called "Scream a Little Dream", I love promoting the creators.A filmmaker named Todd J Moore reached out and invited me to screen his film, the aforementioned "Scream a Little Dream". Being his first feature film after a handful of acclaimed shorts, this one has an extra special 'aura' to it, as it not only premiered at the Shock A-Go-Go Festival, but it was filmed and released in 3D. That is a hell of an ambitious undertaking for the first feature length movie!
"Scream a Little Dream" is a well written and performed homage to our favorite slashers of the 80s like Nightmare on Elm street, and what I refer to as the 90s teen horror era, in the vain of Scream, I Know what You Did Last Summer, and those kinda flicks...but with the campy vibe of the 50's sci-fi and horror films. I think the 3D adds to the that whole feel.
The movie is about a young woman who survived a car accident, in which her friend lost their life. The obvious guilt affects her mentally to the extent that it has her questioning whether a killer she's having nightmares about, is actually stalking her in real life. Is it real or not?
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Todd really did a lot within his means as an independent filmmaker, and delivered a solid debut. He even quelled my biggest worry, which was how well the 3D would look, and ya know it looked excellent throughout. The scenes that really called for the effect, really hit. I'm usually not a big fan of 3D movies, but ya know, putting on those old school cardboard specs was a good time. Between the 3D gimmick and homages to multiple eras of horror, "Scream a Little Dream" really satisfied my hunger for nostalgia.
I highly recommend checking this out when it hits a festival near you. It got great reviews at the Shock A-Go-Go Festival, including a best acting award for Megan Magee, who portrays the lead in "Scream a Little Dream" wonderfully.
I'm honored they sent me a screener. Keep an eye on Todd J Moore. I see a future for this ambitious dude! Go follow him on Facebook and keep up on when the movie is playing near you!
